NEED HELP! 66 malibu brake lights

So today during my project of removing my heater core due to its leaking, a small electrical fire started due to my dumbass not disconnecting the battery. Anyway, the two wires that caused the fire were white and orange wires coming from above my steering column that were wrapped with other wires. I have no idea what those were for becasue I cannot tell where they were connected to, and cannot find what they are for in the electrical diagram.

I went through and made sure all the other wires were not exposed, but the white and orange wires are still not connected. My problem now is that everything works fine except for my brake lights. I'm not sure if those were the wires telling the brake lights to turn on when the brake is applied.

Any diagrams, pictures or advide are greatly appreciated. This is my daily driver and would like to be able to drive with my brake lights working. Thank you.

The brake light switch has a orange wire and a white wire on it. The switch is at the brake pedal.
