Question Firewall Wire Loom for a 72

Does anyone know where to get a wireloom for a 72? Mine was ruined in a resistor wire meltdown years ago and all I can find is the "basic" one for older models. Thanks

Re: Firewall Wire Loom for a 72

Are you talking about a 72 firewall wiring gutter?

Yes. That is a better word than "loom". It is the plastic gutter that is screwed to the firewall.

Re: Firewall Wire Loom for a 72

For a 72 there are no reproductions. It is definitely a different design and many OEM ones got torn or broken. In 72 they cleaned up the wiring thus the different horn relay and gutter. The pictures show a reproduction and my factory one. I cut the reproduction one and mounted it inside the OEM one and it looks as jood as new.

Re: Firewall Wire Loom for a 72

I have the same repro gutter. Did you cut the top flap off the original gutter so the repro could fit inside? Also, did you screw the repro gutter to the firewall or just sit it inside the original gutter? I wish mine was just torn or broken but unfortunately, it melted some so it doesn't look very good. Thanks for your help and ideas.

Re: Firewall Wire Loom for a 72

I cut the gutter part off of the repo gutter and it is basically reinforcing the back of the original and is what is bolted to the firewall. Because of the wires and original gutter you cannot see it. I decided not to glue the two together, did not think it was necessary.

Re: Firewall Wire Loom for a 72

Jonathan: if you're still around, can you elaborate on what you did? Putting one inside the other? My gutter is cracked. It's the same as ion the bottom of the picture, is that the style that is no longer available? Putting the new one inside still leaves me with a cracked gutter for the world to see.

Re: Firewall Wire Loom for a 72

I am here. Trying to remember.... The gutter usually breaks at the screw holes, by reinforcing it you keep it from falling. The 72s gutter is not reproduced and is a 1 year item so it may have a crack for the world to see but with a little work you can make it look good.
