Another upgrade I incorporate is what I call a 4ga upgrade for the charging system which among other features include running a 4ga lead to the factory horn relay junction-thats where I pull power for my headlights relays. So with my 4ga charging system upgrade, I went from 12.77 to 14.10 @ the high beam wire at the headlight plug! That is a huge improvement in light output. With that kind of upgrade, IMO the cost of a HID style headlight kit isn't needed. The low beam headlight lead measured 14.58V whereas the alternator output was rock steady at 14.62V so that gives you an idea of the 4ga upgrade efficiency-this was on a 1970 Monte Carlo BTW.
