Normal voltage at full current draw from alternator

Hi,

I swapped my old 10SI alternator for a CS-130 105 amp and installed the smallest pulley (2 3/8'' OD) that I found. At 80% current draw, I was drawing 83 amp when I made the measurement (heater fan, headlights, high beams, electric fan, etc) and at idle I was right on the 13.0 volt. I figured a 105 amp alternator could hold at least a good 14.0 volt until it got to max output. Is this situation normal?

Thx

Re: Normal voltage at full current draw from alternator

Run the engine speed up to 1500 or so and measure again. You're not gonna maintain 14 volts at idle speed with that much load.

Re: Normal voltage at full current draw from alternator

Long ago I saw some performance plots for various alternators. Some of the high output ones had the lowest idle outputs.
Thirteen volts at idle still shows that it is charging enough to keep the battery up above the 12.6 nominal voltage. So, no worries.
