Re: Wiring harness direct fit plug and play considering major upgrades

70, AAW harnesses come with the wires, the plug ends and fuse block for the dash harness. It does not come with any switches, flashers, dimmer switch, or horn relay, have to buy them separate. Terry

The AAW classic update kit comes with all that stuff. At least it did when I bought one for my 69.

Well on the website it says it does but now Iím not really sure and I still canít compare it to what comes with painless performance as many people seem to just opt for AAW

Re: Wiring harness direct fit plug and play considering major upgrades

I used a painless direct fit in a mid 60's Chevy truck about 15 years ago. I was not impressed with it. The terminals and connectors were the cheap solderless style found at a parts store. It also lacked a connector at the firewall for the hood mounted turn signal / parking lights, making the difficult to remove unless the wiring was fished out of the hood. I haven't used one since then so I can't speak for the quality of the current product.

I am assuming what Terry means by this.statement is if one buys an individual harness it does not come with the above items. As it shouldnt. However if one buys the Classic Update Kit is does come with all the things mentioned.

Re: Wiring harness direct fit plug and play considering major upgrades

I bought the AAW classic update and it came with fuses, relays, flashers and new switches for headlights and dimmer. I think different car feature different items. A friend bought a kit for a 65 Chevelle and his included the above items plus an ignition switch.

Is the harness long enough that you can route it in a different way than factory like if I wanted to run the headlight harness under the driver fender? Or anyone of the other ways to clean up the engine bay and make it look like thereís a minimum amount of wiring?

Re: Wiring harness direct fit plug and play considering major upgrades

Guy's, I should have been more specific about my comment. I purchased my harnesses in stages, not all at once. I did not buy the classic update kit, sorry for the confusion. Terry

Re: Wiring harness direct fit plug and play considering major upgrades

I seem to recall cutting a few feet off the end of most wires. Definitely have a bunch of wire left over. I assume you mean running the wires between the fender and inner fender. If so that is how I did mine.

Yeah thatís what I meant. Do you have any tips and how to route the wiring so that the engine bay is basically super clean and now wires showing

Use harness tape ( not electrical tape) so what wires that are showing look good.

Thanks! Do you have a lot of wires showing or did the kit get it so you could hide a lot of them?

Re: Wiring harness direct fit plug and play considering major upgrades

Well no matter what you do there will be a few wires exposed. Such as wire to an electric choke, wires to the alternator, wire to water temp sensor. But I was able to acquire some wire sheath that also acts as a protector against heat. Got it from one of the vendors and it is only about 3/16 diameter. Can get two wires or so inside the sheath. At least it keeps anything exposed the same color.
One thing that cleans up the engine bay is the looms for the plug wires that run along the base of the valve covers.
