71 Bu door switch connector

Did all 71 Malibu's come with the driver side door switch that has a double connector, one going to dome light and one going to buzzer alarm? Mine only has one, but I see another wire just hanging there close to the switch, and the buzzer alarm does not work so thinking this may be the problem.

Yes, the driver's side jam switch should have two connectors.

Re: 71 Bu door switch connector

All I can offer is on my 68 Chevy II Nova is the driver's door jamb switch has two connections with one connection for the dome light and the other for the key buzzer. The same holds true on my 73 and 74 Nova's but the design is slightly different due to these having internally regulated alternators.

You cannot connect both the dome light wire and the key buzzer wire together as they need separate connections.

On the key buzzer portion on my 68, there is a wire that connects to one of the two wires on the driver's door jamb switch and then this wire goes to a set of contacts inside the key cylinder and then out of the key cylinder another wire then goes out to the combination horn relay/key buzzer on the backside of the radiator support.

I can say on my 68 I had issues with the key buzzer/horn relay assembly and have heard others having issues with the contacts in the ignition switch. If there are issues, it's not that hard of a system to troubleshoot. I personally like the obnoxious buzz when I leave the key in the ignition and open the driver's door. Some though don't like it. It is what it is.

What I have from my 68:

Re: 71 Bu door switch connector

Jim,

Thanks for the information and pics. Along with the other post I do think the drivers side door switch should have the 2 connectors with the piece of plastic separating them. I will pick up a new 2 connector switch and connect the other wire that is hanging close to that switch and see what happens.

If no buzzer sound, then going into the steering to replace the buzzer switch there or a new key ignition. The horn relay works as it should no problem there.

I too enjoy the sound of the alarms ding ding ding.
