Main harness routing for '66

This car was totally apart when I got it so I did not have the luxury to disassemble it and see how things were put together. So does anyone have a picture of the main harness routing? I can see how the new harness connects to the dash and gauges but the big bundle is the question. There are 2 plug in supports but no holes in the fire wall to plug into. Does part of the harness go over the defroster ducts? Is the harness supported with wire ties to support rods under the dash.

Yes I have the AIM. Its one of the worst pages in the manual. But I can see the
Harness attaches into the cluster on page B5 (cancelled). Knowing that, is the assembly order to attach wiring to cluster then screw to the dash or attach wiring once dash is completed? Not sure of access clearance once all is in place.

Re: Main harness routing for '66

Were any of the original harness retainers still attached to the harness? If so that should give you an idea where they should plug into the holes. If I remember correctly there are two small metal retainers that go around the harness wires for the radio, blower resistor and heater-fan switch and near the radio and there are two mounting holes that use small screws to attach them. Isn't there holes in the rear of the cluster taht that plastic retainers push into? Keep us posted.

Re: Main harness routing for '66

Thanks Don. The car was stripped clean. Totally apart.

The small hole I think is to mount the Y defroster duct. There is a metal strap left of the steering column. There are 2 holes in the cluster to hold the big part of the harness with plastic plugs. There are a couple of 1/2 round clips that are part of the harness. Possibly to hold speedo cable. The other straps were probably removed.

Do you think that the cluster is attached to the dash first then attach wiring? Or attach wiring then screw cluster into place, since the cluster is a part of the support

Re: Main harness routing for '66

Thanks Raider. Anything visual is worth a lot more than what's in the AIM, but the AIM has a lot of value too.
