67 Oil pressure and Temp lights

When I swapped my engine, i never hooked up the engine temp or oil pressure sender wires. And I've since forgot where and what color the wires are. So my Malibu only has the warning lights, no gauges. First question, what PSI and temp triggers the warning lights? what are the color and location of the sender wires? And if you know off the top of your head, which sending units do i need? I want to pick up two 2" guages, but I'd like the warning lights too since i can't stare at the gauges at all times

Re: 67 Oil pressure and Temp lights

Usually , if you have the original wiring, the temp sender wire was dark green and the oil sender was dark blue. The add on gauges should contain the correct senders to go with the gauges. As you can see this will require 2 sets of senders as the gauge type sender is a variable resistance unit and the factory idiot light are essentially a on/off switch. Hope this helps.

Re: 67 Oil pressure and Temp lights

Thanks, Mark
Any idea what temp or psi they're triggered?

Re: 67 Oil pressure and Temp lights

Factory temp lights were somewhere around 220 to trip the light and oil pressure was about 7 psi.

Re: 67 Oil pressure and Temp lights

Factory temp lights were 240-260ish and oil pressure lights at 3#is.

Your just jealous because you can't hear the voices!

Re: 67 Oil pressure and Temp lights

After a little more research, the info I found that temp idiot lights were 235-240 degrees and oil pressure was 7 psi in most cases. I suppose the temp units were higher as the radiator caps were 14-16 lbs which would keep the water from boiling up to approximately 242-245 degrees. I remember checkng a couple of old pontiac's back in the day that had flickering oil lights at idle and they would read 7-8 lbs with a mechanical gauge attached.
