Left turn signal engages horn?

I just got a rebuilt tilt column from ss369 to replace my non tilt column. It all went together fairly smooth, the new column was completely assembled except for the key and gear lever. The only problem I'm having is when pressing the horn button it does nothing, but when I use the left turn signal the horn will beep with the turn signal. I was a little unsure on the screw to bolt in the turn signal lever so it might be too long so that could be the problem? I'm going to take it back apart to see what's up. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be? The car is a 72 El camino.

Re: Left turn signal engages horn?

Found it, 2 of the wires were crossed in the turn signal harness, might have got crossed when they were rebuilding the column or it came from the factory that way.

Re: Left turn signal engages horn?

In high school I connected the brake light wire to the horn on a friend's truck. Hilarious. He sold the truck to his brother and later I bought the truck from the brother. They pulled my own truck on me but with the left turn signal and hid the wiring way better. Took me a while to find it and I made only right turns for about a week. Not hilarious when you're the victim.

Re: Left turn signal engages horn?

Really got a kick out of this post! Back in the day, my father had a 1960 bel-air and every time he turned right, the horn would beep. Pissed off quite a few people until he finally fixed it.

Sure wish I had that car now!

Re: Left turn signal engages horn?

My work buddy and I were going back and forth f'ing with each other until I wired his horn to his lights. It was winter, getting off at 5pm so he had to use his lights mid trip back home. Found out the next day he drove home without lights because he couldn't find the wire. Funny, but I felt like crap knowing that.
