How do I remove Grant Steering Wheel Hub Adapter

Hey again everyone,

I installed a Grant wheel a while ago, and while tightening the shaft nut, I went a little too far which has caused the plate that sits under the wheel to lightly contact the steering column when I turn. It makes an annoying sound, and I figured I'd finally deal with it.

I pulled the 3 bolts off that hold the wheel to the hub, and I loosened the shaft nut. The hub adapter is still sitting pretty far down on the shaft (it didn't uncompress when I took the nut off). Is this because the hub adapter is holding it down in the position that I tightened it to? Do I need to use a steering wheel puller to take it back off?

Thanks!

Use a puller. The big center nut forces onto the splines in a tight friction fit.

Well I was able to remove the hub adapter, but the components that sit behind it are still compressed inwards. Do I need to get the steering column tool and remove that center retainer and re assemble?

I resolved the problem. I took everything apart and used a small spacer in between the hub adapter and the hub cover to keep the cover from rubbing against the column.

this is an old post from 2015, but use the above method of a steering wheel puller and you should be fine. good luck!
