Dash Conversion from sweep to SS gauge package

I was looking at Ground Up's volume 13B catalog and on page #139 they show a 1970-72 Super Sport dash kit. They say if I am converting from a sweep style dash they "have me covered" with the kit. I would like to go with the SS dash but do not want to get into a money pit with extra parts needed to complete the change-over.
Here's the question what hidden things should I look for, they want $1745 for the kit and it includes:
Dash Carrier with side vent assembles, dash lens, ash tray, glove box door, steering column cover, dash housing, steel backing panel, speedometer, tachometer, clock, temp/fuel gauge, instrument sockets, printed circuit board, OEM or modern ATO type dash harness with fuse box, and OEM forward lamp harness or engine harness.
I realize I'll have to buy sending units and little things like that but is there anything big?
Thanks,
Ed

Re: Dash Conversion from sweep to SS gauge package

Are you working on a 72? If so does your present dash have the fasten seat belt light in the speedometer cluster? If so that kit will work, but will not be factory correct. All 72 Chevelles after, I believe it is January 1st had a fasten seat belt light. The reproduction dash housings do not have provisions for that and may not be correct for your car.

That one does not look too bad. Has two small holes in the face to the left of the radio. May have been from a CB mic. bracket. Needs a repaint and a re silver and there ya go.

I believe it does have the seat belt light, although it does not light up. If that is the only issue then I am happy with that, it's not a real SS car but it wants to be.

Re: Dash Conversion from sweep to SS gauge package

One thing to keep in mind. An original dash will hold its value and may even increase in value. When you buy an aftermarket kit, it will only decrease in value. Once you purchase them you can have a hard time getting half of your money back if you decided to sell it. That is because they are really no different than putting an aftermarket set of custom wheels on your car.
