how can I tell 67 seats from 68 seats?

I bought a set of bucket seats for my 65 the other day and I`m not sure if they are 67 or 68. I think they are from a pontiac but aside from the seat covers, they are the same as chevelles. They do not have a headrest and have the seat release on the side. I want to have them recovered but I don`t know what covers to get. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken, the 68's have plastic backs, and the 67's (I know) have metal backs

68`s had the botton on the side too. I`m pretty sure they have metal backs, I`ll have to check next time I`m down there. I guess what I need to know is are the widths different between the 2 yrs? Can I put 67 covers on a 68 seat or 68 on a 67? I want to put the correct year cover on them so when I find a set of 65 seats, I can sell these to get back some of my money. Thanks.

Re: how can I tell 67 seats from 68 seats?

67 and 68 Chevelle bucket seats are nearly idendical. The only VISABLE difference(s) are the covers and the fact that 67 version used metal seat backs and bottom aprons, and the 68 iteration changed to plastic.

I don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs but how high he bounces when he hits bottom.

Anthony,
You can install 66-72 seat covers on them... The spring structure and foam are the same for all those years, just the upholstery pattern differs... 64/65 were alot different, and I doubt 65 covers would fit properly...

IF you were having a shop reupholster them, you could probably get them to stitch a cover that looked similar to the 65 pattern (with some pictures, etc for reference)...

I do KNOW you had the metal bottom/side trim, and almost positive the backs were metal too...

Once you go RAT, you never go back...

Re: how can I tell 67 seats from 68 seats?

Tony, I wasn`t thinking of installing 65 covers, I know they are totally different. What Imean is, if they are 67`s then I would put a 67 cover on it. If they are 68`s then I would use a 68 cover. That way they would be correct for the year of the seat. I did`nt know that the seat spings and foam were the same. Thats good to know. I`m pretty sure they were metal sides and back too. Thanks.
