What year Chevelle did these stratos come out of?

I just picked up a set of stratos to restore and I install in my 68, I was wondering if someone could tell me, based on the design of the upholstery, what year Chevelle they came from?

I'm not great at identifying individual year upholstery, but I think those are '69 Chevelle covers. Those seats from definitely from a '69-'72 A body. They will work in a '68 Chevelle, but won't be "correct".

'68 Chevelles had the seat buttons on the side & optional headrests that are pretty rare. Similar to '67 seats, but the '67 seats had metal backs & side covers, where the '68 seats were all plastic.

Those are 69 Chevelle covers. There ars some good stickies in this forum for seat restoration. You can put 68 covers on them but as already said they wont be correct. The 68 seat is a one year seat as is the 66 and the 67. For 69-72 the same seat was used.

Actually, the '69 seats are not identical to the '70 - '72 Seats. The only difference is the Head Rest controls. As I recall, they don't swap.

The headrest escutcheons would be a good clue.

Right you are Bruce. Actually there are some other differences. Such as 71&72 dont have the bolster wires in them. Not sure about 71 but I believe 72 has the key minder system and there are differences in the seat release mechanisms on the tracks. Later are dual release. Also 69 headset release is on the opposite side as 70+.
But appearance wise 69-72 are the same and one could make any of the 4 years appear correct for their year.

Don't the '72 seats have the seat belt reminder wiring?

Hey, Paul: Which way do the head rest release buttons go on the '69's?

Sorry that is what i was referring to when i typed " key minder"

The escutcheons on a 69 face inward as the notches on the 69 posts are on the inboard side of the headrest posts.

69 seats are as per picture above. 70 seats have 2 rows of the pattern in them. Escutcheons are referenced above as well.

Re: What year Chevelle did these stratos come out of?

Definitely 69 seats. Will they work in your 68? Yes. You can buy 68 covers, they will fit over the 69 springs. The seat back release will be different, side (67-68) vs back (69-72) as noted by others, but they will fit! Buy new foam, don't cheap out on the seat foam.

Also, if you don't want the headrests, they can be removed. If you wish to keep them, they look the same as 68 headrests, which were extremely rare. Only the locks are different.
