Question Stock Concours sedan having Kick panels WITH Speaker covers

Okay I have an original brochure form 1968 that shows the 4 door Concours sedan showing the interior of the drivers side and it has a rectangle speaker cover that looks like it is of the sheet metal type with the small holes. It is flat and located on the front lower part of the kick panel and it has the pull handle for the fresh air vent.
That is to say I do not believe that that car had A/C as they deleted the fresh air vents if it was an ordered option correct?

In any event I am asking if anyone has seen these reproduced as I have not...?
They should fit a coupe?
I looked at many of the obvious sites and they all have the after market type of round speaker kick panels... Not the type I am looking for.

I may have to get a beater kick panel and try to devise a cut out and a cover then attempt my own.

If anyone has seen this or where I can get repros OR a template to cut your own I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks

Tighten it till it strips and back it off a quarter turn.

Yes that those are the one's!

Maybe they just used the the same grills from the package try to install the 4 way speaker system and cut holes and added them?
I know they don't look pretty but they don't stick out like the newer ones seem to.

Re: Stock Concours sedan having Kick panels WITH Speaker covers

Those are the grills for the factory or dealer installed 8-track stereo and/or Multiplex FM stereo set-up. They are for 4x6 speakers and are not the same as the 6x9 rear grills. You have to cut holes in the regular kick panels to install them.

I do not know if 68 Chevelle used the same grill as a 68 Camaro, but the 67-68 Camaro grills are reproduced I think. Try Heartbeat City Camaro parts on line. The rectangular shape and size would be the same (or very close), but the contour of how it fits the kick panel may be different. I do know that 67-68 Camaro grills are not the exactly the same as the Factory 67 Chevelle grills, but they can be made to fit and work in a 67 Chevelle with a little effort.

Good luck -

Thanks for the information. I'll have a look and see what is out there and measure up the kick panel area. I know the older speakers didn't have a huge magnet like the new one's do so they will not be able to handle a decent amount of power. I know there will be room in behind and yes if I have to cut then so be it.
I do some hunting now and for the 4x6 grills. Thanks again.

I have a 67 Impala. Has the same appearing speaker grills in the same area of the kick panels. On mine it was a factory option.

Re: Stock Concours sedan having Kick panels WITH Speaker covers

Hi Roman
Thanks for confirming this for me.
Do you recall if there was a room for the magnet behind the screen.
I am guessing there is not that much room or a pretty small magnet.

Guess what I am asking is was there sufficient room behind the plastic panel to mount the speaker
Did the speaker hang off the plastic kick panel or was there a mount attached behind the panel to the inside of the body?
Thanks
Again

Casey

Attached are 2 photos I took when I was working on my interior. They show exactly how it goes together. The speakers are aftermarket and they fit.
