Speaker Box Question

I've got some premade wedge shaped boxes for the 6x9's that are going in the rear of my '70 El Camino. I see some filled with a cotton batting type material, what is this for and are there any benefits to it? The speakers are Kickers.
Thanks.

Re: Speaker Box Question

I think its to cut down on buzziness and bad vibrations inside the box. All those decibels can loosen things but at least the stuffing can dampen the odd sounds . . . keeping the rock and roll.

Re: Speaker Box Question

DAVE:
In 1966 I was driving a 396 Caprice, ( I just totaled my 66 Azt. Bronze 396/4 speed , Ins. issues now) I was also playing in a band. For some nice sounds,,,,,,, I un/hooked one of the rear speakers in the 66 and then with two Roch clips or Gator clips, some wire and a 1/4" phone jack. I would jump the speaker wires and plug in the 1/4" phone to my DUAL showman speaker cabinet.
It had 2-15" JBL-D-130s,,,,, Thats how you make a Boombox.
