1968 Dash Ignition Switch Hole

Hey Guys, first post ever. I need some help. I got a 1968 Chevelle 2 Door Post. I bought when it was 14 years old for 300 dollars and everything is not orginal. I've had an aftermarket igntion switch and a hand made dash for the past 10 years. I decided to get an semi orginal dash, and now have to figure out how to get my ignition switch to mount. I don't really understand the what was in the hole to start with. I know a bezel was there (though idk what it actually really looks like) , but what holds the switch up in the back. What holds my circle in a circle? Any help is apperciated.

Thereís a metal nut and the plastic chrome bezel. Ignition goes in from the back, metal nut (thatís round) goes on the snug the switch and hold it in place. Then plastic chrome bezel threads on to look good. Thereís also a piece of metal that goes behind the plastic dash between the ignition switch that also gets sandwiched between lighter and connects to the gauge cluster. I think itís for grounding.

[QUOTE=skreddy;11014816] Thereís also a piece of metal that goes behind the plastic dash between the ignition switch that also gets sandwiched between lighter and connects to the gauge cluster.

This is what the switch actually mounts to. The switch does not mount to the bezel. It mounts to this bracket that is mounted to the back of the bezel. It also holds the lighter, which is the reason the bracket needs to be grounded; without grounding the lighter wont work.

Re: 1968 Dash Ignition Switch Hole

I sold you the bracket and switch. Did you have to drill out the lock part in order to separate it from the bracket?

Re: 1968 Dash Ignition Switch Hole

I put channel locks on the back of the switch trying to take the nut off. Broke the switch. However with a little wd-40 and Big Channel Locks. I got the nut off. The bracket was all i needed. Thanks for sending it so quick. My fixing things is trending up since I joined this board.
