Re: SST Silver Sport Transmissions - from the ashes of Keisler?

Jeff, delivering the 57 today after an Eddy FI kit is done. I think we will be doing it very soon. Just have to check a few driveability questions then on to the overdrive. No real driving history other than the owner was tired of blowing black smoke, so he brought me the car and an Eddy E Street kit.

Couple of junkers and a few clunkers.

What dictates whether a 5 or 6 speed is better suited for the car?

In a nutshell...

1. Do you want to cut?
2. Engine type and RPM capability
3. Importance of shifter location (6 speed is limited)
4. How much you want to spend

As Andy said, it has an M22. The engine is a 454, which I wouldn't consider a high winder, nor do I intend to race around (like Andy). I have a bench seat and long curved shifter, for which I like the old school look, and it's location is right on the money. The car is my daily driver and it cruises nicely at 60 to 65, but since the speed limit here is 70, I need at least one more gear to keep up with the school buses.
It has a 12 bolt, but I don't know what gear ratio.

The 5 speeds are more than adequate and will provide the factory shifter location as it looks now. You can run interstate speeds all day long with a 5 speed.

A lot of guys like the idea of a 6 speed but the functional model really doesn't provide much more overdrive than the 5 speeds do. The wide ratio model has too low of a starting gear and too much overdrive for most builds at 50%.

Call me and we can run through some speed vs. rpm scenarios and make sure we pick the model most appropriate for your project.

this sounds very straight forward without gobblede-gook double talk
the 5-speed tremec i used to have was really great, more than enough for high speed highway and about 4-mpg increase on highway... w/ 4.88 rear gear

That's what I'm thinking.

I have driven a 5 speed Tremec once and it did shift very smoothly.

I wonder if there is a Team Chevelle discount?

So how much does this cost and shipped to Southeast Florida and what else

will I need? Special or high performance Clutch, flywheel, different cross member, drive shaft, yolk?

Our kit includes:

TKO trans with case streamlining and Gen6 shifter
Driveshaft (complete, painted and balanced)
Template/Sheet metal for tunnel
Speedo adapter or new cable (your choice)
Isolator
Pilot bearing
Reverse light pigtail
Hardware and instructions

Kit = $3399

You'll need a 26 spline clutch disc minimally if you have a 10 spline clutch now (most common) and a shifter handle since the 68-72 handle curves over and to the left which will not work with the Tremec installation.

Handle with ball = $122

Clutch disc w/tool = $34 and up depending on power level (complete clutch kits are also available)

$3399 + $122 + $34 = $3555 - $250 discount + $125 UPS shipping = $3430 total (automatic to manual conversions higher since they require more parts)

Re: SST Silver Sport Transmissions - from the ashes of Keisler?

Jeff, I like the price but its Mikes money, I am just a tool being used to improve a very cool Nomad. I have a lot going on right now at the shop. I want Mike to enjoy the car for a few weeks so he can tell me what the car is doing. His likes and dislikes. Muncies are not butter smooth. Tremecs are. But the car has a real M22 and a 12 bolt. Lots of cool things going on up front underneath. It has hydroboost, frigen cold ac, and 4 wheels disc. For a 57, it handles very well.

May is just too soon. Mike has a new injection setup to play with and the car only has a tad over 600 miles since the car was finished in its first form.

My goals , for Mike, would be swap the clutch, stab a trans, change the yoke, and have Mike drive this thing daily for a few months, in a few months. Not interested in trans tunnel mods for a T56, a T5 is all we need. The Nomad wears original floors, rockers, trunk floor. Not really a car you cut.

I have a 14 ZL1 with a 6 speed. I can remember using 6th gear but a handful of times, and this 57 is a lot lighter than a tech packed Camaro.

One thing we both agree on, the clutch in the car sucks. You are either on the pedal, or not.

Couple of junkers and a few clunkers.

Re: SST Silver Sport Transmissions - from the ashes of Keisler?

You're welcome Jeff...I have one of the Keisler RS500's which I got shortly before they went belly up. I haven't installed it yet but when the time comes ( hopefully soon ) if I have any issues or need parts do you guys support these? I'm not looking for warranty support but more like questions answered or accessories if needed.
