OK guys, EXPLAIN to me why Disco died???

I know MANY of you here do not like and never did like Disco. I KNOW THAT! But why-----------------much of the music was so great-------------and great to dance to!! I never understood why it died. I'm 71 now, and disco STILL trips my trigger!
Just a couple of examples. I could dance with these girls all night!

Did you say Disco? Man I likes Disco.....check out the pic of me Linda and Lindsie from 1978 at the 2001 Odyssey where Saturday Night Fever was filmed in Brooklyn. Ironic, I graduated from HS with Ron Phillips, he shot the album cover for the sound track.

I read somewhere that AIDS killed disco. May have been on a VH1 show or something but AIDS hit and the mindset changed.

Re: OK guys, EXPLAIN to me why Disco died???

I was in middle school in the late 70s and my mom loved that #!%*. Bee Gees, Donna Summer, KC and their ilk. Every radio station in town pumped that crap 24-7 until I thought my head would explode.

Thank goodness for the one rock station that was doing Kansas, Foreigner Triumph etc.
I would have been dead at twelve if not for them.

That being said, after a 35 year self imposed boycott... God help me, I have found myself singing along to some of that same crap lately. I have hidden in my basement and listened/watched some of it on YouTube and even downloaded ELO on my MP3.

Please don't tell anybody and somebody get me a referral for some mental help.

I'm so ashamed.

PS. Mr. Les....If you were sitting behind a piano in that picture, I would swear on a stack of bibles you were Mickey Gilley.

Re: OK guys, EXPLAIN to me why Disco died???

It was like any other form of music that has become popular. Name one that has truely thrived over the long haul? Jazz, no. Big band, no. Soul, no. Motown, no. R&B, no. Rock, no. Metal, no. New wave, no. Not all of these have returned to the land of obscurity, but none have maintained their popularity. Why should disco be any different? It was a niche form of music then, it still is now, just with a smaller audience and mainly on classic 70's stations.

No, I like music. Good old 60's and 70's rock and roll. War era music as well as some later stuff by successful musicians, Zeppelin, Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, etc.

**GASP**

MTV only killed the really ugly musicians and singers. Christopher Cross comes to mind.
MTV RAWKED until they went reality and hip-hop 24/7.

Because I took dance lessons for it and still determined I don't dance well.

So I let it go.

True story.

66 Malibu Coupe, home rebuilt 350. Took me 39 years to get her!
