Re: OK guys, EXPLAIN to me why Disco died???

The real reason? Leisure suits killed it. I lived on classic rock until about 5 years ago, never cared much for country, but as I've gotten older, the Blues is my cup of tea.

Why did Disco die.?
We had to make room for all of the heavy metal "glam-hair bands" that followed.

'67 Chevelle Malibu, Catalina Blue, 540 inch Rat, Air Flow Reasearch 290 CNC Heads heads, Custom Hyd Roller, .675 lift, 234, 244 at .050, Lemons Headers, Holley Multiport Fuel Injection, TCI 6X 6Speed Automatic, 12 bolt Posi Eaton TruTrac, 3:31 Richmond Gears, front and rear power disc brakes, Global West Suspension, etc.

Disco did one great thing......................It took stereo equipment to the next level and showed us how much pure sound could come out of those tiny Bose 901's.

John

I may be old but I have seen all the great bands.

Re: OK guys, EXPLAIN to me why Disco died???

I don't know why Disco died, but Video killed the radio star, or so I heard

I liked some of the songs from the disco era / genre, but like all genre's of music, I like the songs, not the artist or genre of music.

I will listen to Donna Summer, KC and the Sunshine band (but I HAVE to turn off the BeeGee's when I hear their whiney, screechy, just got kicked in the nads voices) just as I will listen to Nora Jones, Sarah McLachlan, BB King, Elvis, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Cake, David Sanborn, Sass Jordan, Styx, Kid Rock, Frankie Valli, MegaDeath, Disturbed, Etta Jones, Bob Segar, Ziggy Marley, Prince, Klymaxx, Ella Fitzgerald, Louie Armstrong, The Temptations, Ted Nugent, Rick James, Warren Zevon........ and the list goes on and on...... like others have said, Disco ran it's course just like white guys wearing afros, bell bottoms, Member's Only jackets and Jordache jeans. And after a while, some (most) of the songs started sounding very much alike.

Road Captain, ELO wasn't "Disco"..... I think they were trying the same thing "The Who" and "Queen" did much more successfully, tried doing "Rock Opera" but in a different genre of music and not as well as the two mentioned above.

Re: OK guys, EXPLAIN to me why Disco died???

If you have to ask. You dont understand. Actually though. Once music video came around, taste in peoples music change, clubs like Studio 54 close up. That pretty much puts the kabash on it. Disco was a fad type of music, not a genre so it was never going to last.

Examples like hair bands being a form of heavy metal that didnt last, but heavy metal has always been around (thank god), disco didnt last but dance music is here to stay, some of which im cool with, grunge music was a fad but alternative music is here to stay (cool with that too).

Same reason Big Band music died off. The next generation doesn't want to listen to its parents' music..........or even its older siblings' music for that matter.

I was getting ready to ask for all your MAN CARDS there for a minute.
But at 55 (in a few days) you reflect on life. I am glad the Disco Movement died. But the music was generally decent without all Leisure Suits, Big Hair, etc.

Yup, thats right i remember one incedent circa 1978-9 if you brought in a disco album to a White Sox game it was disco demolition night, i think you got in free.It was a double header and in between games he blew up all of the albums, needless to say the field was thrashed and overrun with the spectators,White Sox had to forfeit the second game.He was banned for life from Comisky park.

I'm pretty sure you got mad at me last time I commented on disco, or your fondness for it, Tom - so I guess I'll refrain.
