Is this cam too small for 468

My engine is at the machine shop right now. They think the cam I have, Hyd. Roller 221/235 578 lift 109LSA, is too small for 9.75:1 compression (781 heads) and might cause pinging on crappy 91 octane we have here. I know the cam is on the small side, but my car is just a cruiser with AC, power brakes and 4 speed.

I just don't want engine to have issues with detonation.

What do you guys think?

Any input is appreciated.

Not too small, sounds just about right actually. I run a 227/233 554 lift 110LSA with 781 heads on a 9.8 462 on 87 and it doesn't ping at all. What pistons do you have?

Eddie: I don't think it's too small at all. Actually, I think it's just about right....and will have better manners than the 229/241 cam that is often used for these heads/builds.

Most importantly, if Chris Straub spec'd the cam for you, you'll be fine.

Thank you Tony. I figured it will be fine and I trust Chris, just thought I double check before the block gets decked.

Sounds like a nice mild cam should run just fine.

If this is the 60203 Voodoo cam I had it in my 427. It ran great and pulled hard but it was very noisy, you could almost hear every valve slam shut. I ran it for 30000 miles with no problems, plenty of vacuum for power brakes too.

looks about right to me.

Tom Terrific or Terrible Tom, depending on the phase of the moon, passing cosmic rays or other factors not fully understood except by my wife.
