Question Gasket between Air cleaner and carburettor?

I hope this question is not all too stupid. I took off my air cleaner housing (bottom + top plate with the round, open filter in between) from my carburettor (Edelbrock Performer 750) several times now and somehow I feel that there should be a gasket. This engine is sucking in so much air, I fear without a gasket between the air filter and the carb, it will suck in dirty air. I looked in online shops who sell carbs (even on the Edelbrock site) and on sites that sell air filter housings... I could not see any gaskets yet. Is this just uncommon?
I feel to get one, to make sure the engine is only getting filtered air. Do you have one, and where did you get it?

Thank you very much in advance

So they exist :-)
I wondered, because metal on metal is not really sealing well. At least I was on the right track with my thinking. Iīll get one ASAP.

Thanks for your reply! :-)

Re: Gasket between Air cleaner and carburettor?

I've never used a carb to air cleaner gasket.

Fel-Pro has them.

Re: Gasket between Air cleaner and carburettor?

The OEM used them, they also add some cushioning between the carb top & the air cleaner

I see you're in Germany, if you have trouble finding parts or gaskets you can make that carb gasket from gasket material or even a thin cardboard box, Iv made rocker box gaskets for 55 & 57 triumph motor cycles from pamper diaper boxes when my oldest daughter was a baby and I was broke, oh and they lasted too.

You can use the card board from an empty cereal box. And it's free.

Re: Gasket between Air cleaner and carburettor?

Thank you very much everyone, thatīs some very valuable information. I never thought about cardboard. I could do that until I get a "real" one

Getting parts in Germany sometimes works, sometimes not. Vintage US cars are a bit exotic over here. There are shops which specialize in selling parts for those cars. But believe it or not: Sometimes itīs cheaper to order directly in the US + Taxes + Shipping + customs charges and it ends up still cheaper than buying in Germany. Also the US shops have an insane amount of parts to chose from. Whenever I go look around in for example RockAuto, SummitRacing, OPGI and others, I feel that I can build a brand new car with all the parts they have. And thatīs when searching for parts for cars which are over 50 years old. Itīs a paradise

Re: Gasket between Air cleaner and carburettor?

Check ebay etc. for 5 1/4" air horn gasket, I always use them.

Thicker ones are nice.

Thanks
Randy

Re: Gasket between Air cleaner and carburettor?

Thanks for the tip Randy!
Iīll order a few more parts this evening, and that gasket will be part of it :-)

I hope they are not too thick. The air box is already rubbing on the hood insulation. That Airgap RPM intake is building a bit high for the 64 El Camino hood it seems, so every fraction of an inch I can save is good. Maybe thatīs the reason the previous owner did not put a gasket in. Iīll see, it does not cost a fortune ;-)

Re: Gasket between Air cleaner and carburettor?

I have made base gaskets from bud light boxes.
Now the best air cleaner to carb gasket I ever made was from leather I cut off of an old leather chair that someone tossed.

That leather works for many things.
I made pouches for my files from it.. To keep files in the drawer from dinking each other.
Thicker pieces I have used for hinges on ice chests when the plastic hinges give up.

One mans trash.

one man's trash is another man's re-purposing gold mine.

Yeah, I'm guilty too.
