If you just replaced your plug wires, recheck the firing order. Chevy is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

I checked the distributor rechecked the firing order it all checked fine.
I'm going to check the valve timing. By pulling the valve cover and dist cap. To see if the valves close when piston is up at the. Compression stroke. I'm suspecting the timing chain is worn.

Block/wire the choke wide open and see if it'll start.
Might take a few trys to clear out the excess fuel.
Check for a sticking needle/seat.
Also, some of the QJ's had an issue with the floats filling/absorbing fuel and sinking causing a flooding situation.

Re: Q jet spits out fuel and smoke on cold starts

Probably not a timing chain issue but you can check and see how much slack is in the chain with the dist cap off. Your problem sounds more like badly flooded or ignition issues.

This should explain it as he's only giving the first 4 digits (1980's carb)

Timing chains mostly fail at start up.

Quick check is to put your timing pointer at zero and the rotor should be pointing at the #1 or # 6 plug terminal on the distributor cap.

Thanks
