Oddball Casting Number

I found a '76 350 block, casting number 3970014. While that's not "odd", the fact that the casting number is upside down is. As in it's readable from the engine side, upside down when looked at from the tranny.
Anybody else ever see one of these? I've torn down hundreds of smallblocks in the past 10 years and this is a first for me.

Re: Oddball Casting Number

Those numbers were on an insert that was mounted on the pattern. It is possible that one got installed upside down when it was assembled.

I never make mistakes, but on occasion I present myself with an opportunity to get very creative.

Re: Oddball Casting Number

Now all I gotta do is find somebody that collects block anomalies, kinda like coin collectors that specialize in mis-stamps.
There can't be many of these that got out...
