70 LS-5 Air Cleaner Lid Notch?

Hello all, I have a quick question that I couldn’t find the answer to searching around. I was just installing a NOS air lid seal on my 70 LS5 and was wondering why there is a flat notch in the 10 to 11-o-clock position? I would imagine it would be to make room for something, but I can’t tell what. Thanks for your continuing efforts to cure my ignorance!

Maybe factory coil and or coil wire was in that location?

You need to PM user Robinls5 with your question. He has a 1970 LS5 El Camino that he has owned since new. He may be able to help.

are you referring to the notch on the air cleaner flange that the seal attaches to?

Re: 70 LS-5 Air Cleaner Lid Notch?

It may be something specific to clearance in another application, like Camaro or Corvette, and was stamped into all lids even if not needed on Chevelle or Caprice/Impala or Trucks.

Chevrolet was good about making one parts fit all cars even if some feature wasn't needed for every application, unlike Ford who had to make a new part for every little instance..

Yes, exactly this. It makes my seal look a little off

Offset spacing for a vacuum can used on cowl induction hoods. Some are like small coffee can and some plastic balls
