Gen 5 454... what retro fit hyd roller lifters?

Been searching online, not finding anything specific. Some even say for 87 and older blocks only.

Basically, it is a 94 dated block - ATK short block. AFR 265s with hyd roller springs. GMPP ZZ502 HO camshaft. I was going to buy Howard's, but started reading several bad reviews about them coming apart. Then there was the Morel debacle a few years back...

Thanks in advance

Re: Gen 5 454... what retro fit hyd roller lifters?

If you have a gen5 BB,you dont need retro rollers, just rollers.
Gen 5 blocks were from 1991 til 1995.
Gen 6 started 1996,mark 4s require retro rollerts if you want them. The last mark 4 year was 1990.
Check your casting numbers over at mortec.com
Also,I was told by a Summitracing techy that Sealed Power was the manufacturer for the GM rollers of those years.

EDIT-Just reread your post.Did you not mean to say retro?

Yes. This block originally had a hyd flat tappet cam. It is not set up for the intake "spider" to retain the non link bar style lifters. It looks very much like a Mark IV in the lifter valley.

These Melling brand lifters came up in my search #BB817RF16 & Lunati #72331-16

If you looking for a quiet lifter that does not matter what you run for oil and no special adjustment trying to get rid of the noise, Go with the Johnson lifters. So far I have not had one complaint except they are quiet. LOL

Brian,
I have never had a problem using Comp Cams lifters in the past. Never had a noisy set and never had any failures. Put two sets in a pair of 502 Mercruisers 2 years ago for my cousins boat and they are still fine.

Gen 5 uses the same lifters as Mark IV. The factory rollers with tall lifter bores started with the Gen 6.

^ no problem. I'm a Gen 6 hoarder. And a SBC 400 block hoarder. And a project hoarder.
One man's old junk is another's treasure, I've done considerably better than the stock market even though SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) doesn't put much stock in it

I have used Comp cams both their standard and short travel, howard 91161(they are gaterman same as trickflow TFS-21400005) howard 91167, trickflow TFS-21400005 and several sets of Morel 4603. All except one set of the howard 91167 has and are still working excellent the Morel 4603s are little noisy cold.
