My VortecPro 467 has arrived!

As I mentioned in another thread or two, I've been working with Mark Jones on building me a nice, mellow cruiser big block for my '72.

I decided upon his basic 467 with a few upgrades (roller cam, forged pistons, etc.) It finally arrived yesterday!

He dyno'd it in at 538 hp @5600 and 569 ft lbs of torque @ 4000 using my 770 Ultra Street Avenger vacuum secondary carb and MSD Pro Billet distributor, on 91 pump gas, and has estimated 9.4:1 compression. It has a nice, big flat torque curve, and Mark was very pleased with this build. Working with him was awesome.

Yes - I had him paint it blue, and it has a black oil pan with his custom oiling modifications along with a black base/metering block carb. It's going into my blue with black stripes car - I'm trying to be color coordinated. Had a few air cleaner decals made up too.

The only downside is that the cars are getting put away for the winter. I won't be able to drive it around until springtime, so sometime between now and then I'll gather up the rest of what is needed to swap it in, and sometime next spring I'll be reporting back on how it goes.

Oh, yeah, pictures or it never happened...

I like your air cleaner decals. I had some 500 inch decals made but am less than impressed with the outcome. Your numbers are in the correct place, mine were not. Who made your decals?

Dig it. I hope your trans and everything behind it is up to the task. In the few months I've had mine I've had to replace everything but the rear end and the only saving that is it's still open and hasn't hooked.

I see he still hasn't fixed the date on the dyno. Come on, Mark!

Found a guy on eBay that makes em. Quality seems quite good. Here is the link:

Re: My VortecPro 467 has arrived!

The new Moser 12 bolt should hold up, and the trans was built for 750hp so we will see.

Still gotta get a new driveshaft though - looking at a Denny's nitrous or aluminum shaft. They said both in a 3.5" will have roughly the same critical speed of around 6500 or so. I've still got the stock one under it.

Great motor....and I like your car. I dig that blue with black accents on 68-72 Chevelles.

Did you and Mark ever discuss whether or not you have enough carb? Grant it, I have no idea what your specs are....but I would have guessed an 870 size would have been the ticket.

But Mark and many others are smarter than me on some of this stuff.

I tried that guy but he couldn't make them for a 16" diameter air cleaner.
Again. nice job on the 467 decals. I like your paint scheme on that Jones big block. You're gonna be real happy with that thing.

Oh no, it doesn't have an Air Gap. LOL. Bet that new engine will bake the tires pretty good.

Nice looking engine! Nice torque curve!
What are the spec on the cam?

I went with the 3.5 nitrous ready driveshaft from dennys, nice piece and they warranty it for life.

Re: My VortecPro 467 has arrived!

Thanks. It is the factory color - Mulsanne blue.

Yup, we discussed the carb, and this is the one Mark actually recommended, so I bought one new and shipped it to him to dyno with. He said it was really nice behaving and one of the best carbs he has dyno'd.

Re: My VortecPro 467 has arrived!

The intake is a Performer RPM intake. Just not an air gap - I let Mark select the intake and really specify the combo as he builds a lot of these and knows what works best together.
