858 bbc heads rec pistons

Working on 427 bbc new build. So far Iíve got a pretty good block 3916321, 3873858 heads, 6223 crank all in good condition. Will be using standard 6.135 rods. But Iím kinda stuck on selecting pistons. Iím trying to get above the 10 cr and most calculators indicate I need a dome piston with 22cc. My heads are closed chamber 109cc so to me itís made finding a shelf piston challenging.

So far I have found a speedpro piston but itís for a 454 application.

Question: can anyone offer some piston options for my setup?
What do think about using these 454 pistons in a 427?

Specs on the 454 pistons H693CP
Material: Hypereutectic
Bore: 4.250'' (107.95mm)
Piston Top: +22.0cc Dome Top w/2 Valve Reliefs, 0.230" Dome
Compression Height: 1.640"
Rod Length: 6.135"
Stroke: 4.000"

Appreciate any help.

Ps... later Iíll be getting into the cam, lifter, pr,

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

Those pistons won't work with those rods and crank. Try these,

The overbore will increase compression too.

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

Badrad,

Found these pistons can I get ur input? Brand? Etc I know Iíll have to bore 30 over. Or maybe these folks can offer a standard 4.25 piston. This piston shows my cr at 11. With a .040 head gasket. I might be able to machine top of piston a little to bring down cr.

Product Line:Ross Racing Forged Pistons

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

I did a similar 427 build with 858 heads and iirc, used a shelf piston slight dome, believe they were SRP. I'll try to look up the receipt later.

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

Found the build receipt that lists KB pistons, no Summit receipt yet, but I'm thinking they were the KB397s.

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

You can machine solid domes if you need to. I'd go lower on compression than higher. The KB pistons will likely fit your heads too but GM made so many different chambers designs that sometimes it's a toss up. Those Ross pistons are nice.

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

Check out Autotec/Racetec pistons website and give them a call, I have a forged stroker rotating ass. on it's way from Lewis racing engines with 22.7 dome pistons and think they make whatever you want very reasonable but I'd call them to be sure

If you decide to stay with the "standard" bore I have 8 new forged pistons on the shelf with 17 cc domes. They come with the rings also.

With your 858 heads these will put you in pump-gas territory with about 10:1, depending on your chamber volumes!

If interested contact me with an e-mail: [email protected]

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Just a tip for what it's worth but first off I would look into turning those 858's into some quick and easy cash, a whole bunch of it actually, depending on the dates and if someone needs them for restoring a 66 Vette. These heads in our neighborhood fetch between the 3500.00 and 4000.00 range (bare) when all the stars are in alignment!!

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

Not sure why they're selling for that when ebay has them routinely for $1500-$2500.

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

Wow got home was happy to see all these suggestions. Ok gotta digest this.

Dozerhand. Thanks for calculator a must have.

Cheveslakr. Iíll check out the kb397ís thanks

Chovelrick. I have considered having pistons made that might end up being the way to if I canít find shelf pistons I can tweak.

GOSFAST. Definitely interested. Iíll reach out later tonight. Ps.. hoping there not press fit. Thanks

Yea 858 heads can be found on internet. And I did consider other heads for this build that would of been easier to find pistons for but when I saw these two 858ís I fell in love. Wow these 858 were like in a time capsule. I just got them back from machine shop and they look brand new. Iím kinda committed to using these heads. Hopefully if I figure out how to become a member Iíll post some pics of this build.

Another piston I saw is the speed pro L-2300NF. With a head vol -16.8 with a .030 squeezed head gasket I get like 9.54cr. I donít mind sacrificing some cr but my overall goal is to achieve like 500hp. I know I havenít picked out cam yet but wanna conservatively get past piston and head selection.

Also Iím not looking for a race car, but who doesnít wanna go fast right

Thanks for suggestions

Re: 858 bbc heads rec pistons

Ok thanks.

Ok L-2300NF out to! Itís press fit didnít catch that. Called summit tech support today. They were pretty cool, guy was not rushing to hang up very helpful. He found a piston could work iCON premium forged IC777-STD. -18cc dome floating $600 set. With the -18cc puts me at 9.56cr.

They also recommended 3 cams. But one 1200-5200. And 1900-5400. I chose middle one 1600-5400. Please let me know if anything says donít do it. Oh and Iím considering all this with 3:55 gears, th400 with 2000 stall conv.
