BBC spark plugs 🤣🤣

Well, if my hunch is right I think Iíve seen it all. I had to remove my right side header to install my tubular upper a frame. So I thought I should remove the plugs first so I wouldnít break one. I was surprised to find they were all only finger tight 😳😳. I removed them and the header, installed the a frames. Put the header back on and worked on the disc brake installation. Went to put the plugs in and screwed them in finger tight got my socket to tighten them. WOW, the socket only spun around the plug 🧐. I unscrewed one and took a couple of pics. I think the squirrel I bought the care from had 13/16 plugs screwed into a hole for a 5/8 tapered seat plug 🤣🤣🤣 someone please verify and tell me what plug I need for a 502 big block with a 750 dual line Holley. Pics attached. Can get more

Re: BBC spark plugs 🤣🤣

Common mistake since some BBC heads are machined for washer seats and some for taper seats. Without knowing the vintage and/or casting number of the head and if the parts counter or website supplies plugs for the year of the car...the result can be as you discovered.

YOUR PICTURED HEAD appears to have tapered seat but that's no guarantee the other head is the same.

Iíll definitely check LOL. I couldnít believe it ran as well as it did with the plugs only finger tight. So I need an AC43T?

Re: BBC spark plugs 🤣🤣

R43T may be a better choice. Resistor plugs help to eliminate radio static.

I think that R44T (hotter than R43T) was the proper heat range for street driven cars but your modifications and usage may need a different heat range.

Dave,

You need to try and tell how long the plug threads need to be. Some of them use the long reach plugs and some use the short reach. If you had your head casting number it would make things a lot easier. Is this a GM crate engine 502 ?

I have a set of Mercruiser 502 heads here in the shop that have NGK BR6FS plugs in them. Taper seat short reach.
