Parade car help

402, mild cam, 3:73, M-21

I’m committed to a parade. Car won’t idle along @ walking speed. Any hints to save clutch ?

Maybe throw off carb adjustments?

Re: Parade car help

Maybe try to adjust your idle speed lower. What is it set at now?

Re: Parade car help

Not going to happen. If you have a 30 inch tall tire you will need to get it down to about 180 rpm for 2 mph which is a semi slow walk ? In a parade might even need 1 mph which would be 90 rpm.

I figures it with a 2.20 first gear.

Re: Parade car help

ATV with a push bar could push you along, like they do in the NHRA safety safari. Possible option? Just idle in neutral and rev it for the kids every once and a while.

Re: Parade car help

Parades are very hard on clutches. I learned to avoid them. Especially bad was one where there was a mild uphill grade. The marchers behind me didn't like the smell any better than I did. Another car owner warned me not to do parades but I had to learn for myself.

I’ve avoided them for years.....boring. This time I owe a 3 year old beauty queen a favor.

Your left leg will give out long before the clutch.

Re: Parade car help

Practice practice practice I would try turning the idle speed up instead of down and maybe practice keeping the speed below a couple of MPH by letting the clutch out just enough to keep it rolling without stopping that would be the least amount of wear.If you can keep it rolling it won't be to much start and stop.
One other tip air up you tires to about 41 for less rolling resistance for temporary it won't hurt them but it will help it to roll much easier.

I owe a Realtor friend several business favors and she won’t let me pay her...I’m stuck, w/o appearing a jerk. I’ve turned down plenty parade offers.

Most don’t understand old skool hot rods are not made for parades.

BTW, Southeast Gassers coming to Piedmont Dragstrip July 6 💪

Be there or be square 😀

Hotwire, Greensboring about to “Light em up” Piedmont Dragstrip July 6. South East Gassers Association. 1967 NHRA rulebook, no bottles, no turbos, no ET’s on windshields, all right foot. First to finish line wins.

Enjoy !
