MSD 31233 plug wires

I bought some brand new in the box plug wires from a guy selling things at a moving sale for $75 so I figured Id run them under the headers since they're a 90* plug wire for a clean look, is there any problem with that routing? heat or? anyone have regrets doing that? TIA, rick

Re: MSD 31233 plug wires

I have headers so I installed fireproof socks around the plugs.

Re: MSD 31233 plug wires

Did you run the wires under the headers? that's what I'm thinking of, I also bought Spectre adj. wire looms that bolt to the VC with the VC bolts to run above the headers from him as well just in case, and they're new in the package for another $25 so I figured why not, but I'm really leaning for under the headers

Pretty common with small blocks. I'll be doing mine that way so I have one less thing in the way of valve adjustments.

Re: MSD 31233 plug wires

I looked through my AIM and couldn't find any clips or clamps that would keep plug wires from moving around and touching the exhaust or any thing hot, is there a clip or something I should be looking for to secure the wires or do they just hang under manifolds or headers? I could make something but Id rather use a correct type clamp or clip

Re: MSD 31233 plug wires

Factory small blocks came with under the exh manifolds for years so there are bolt holes on a SBC for you to take advantage of but if your SBC is like mine all that stuff to run the wires is gone so time to make some or buy some. But the under the headers look is clean.
PS I bought those same wires and ran them over the VC's and they look like crap and I melted a boot.Just got new VC's and will correct that look when I replace my rusted up headers.

Mines a 454 but I'm thinking it'll look better with the wires under the headers, I think I can come up with something that'll look good and serve the purpose

Re: MSD 31233 plug wires

for the early style rams horn manifolds the factory ran the two front plug wires on each side straight down between the motor mount and the block then through a clip on an oil pan bolt under the third cylinder back. the wires from the third and fourth cylinder on each side went straight back to a loom behind and below the back of the cylinder head. I had a 327 in my 57 Chevy pickup with Moroso wires set up like that worked from 1985 to 2015, still in good shape. don't let them get up against any hot exhaust part or let oil leak on them and they'll last for decades.

Re: MSD 31233 plug wires

As Tom suggested I'm going to run these wires on my BB but I've read on reviews for the FG woven heat shield that people use shrink wrap on the ends ?, so I'm wondering if that's really needed or should I get some and put it on?
