Guys...Fitting 15" Wheels over Disc Brakes

68 Chevelle

Disc Brakes: brand/kit unknown. 11" rotor + caliper= 13.5" diameter

Desired Front Wheels: Wheel Vintique 50 Series SS 396 Wheels. 15x8, 4.5" BS.

Wheel Vintique says the inside diameter of their wheel is 12.62" so I assume they won't fit over my brakes. I MUST have these wheels, even if it means getting new brakes. I've read countless forums and bought/sold wheels already. I want to know how I can fit these wheels over my brakes before I buy them and find out they don't fit. Would love to prevent further loss of $$$

If your measurements are correct, you cannot make them fit. Either your brakes or your choice of wheels has to go. But since you said you must have them, start looking for new brakes.

I can't imagine how a brake rotor will add 2.5" to the diameter of the brake setup.. 3/4", maybe..

I have 12" disc brakes from a 98-02 F body on my Camaro and 15" wheels fit.. a lot of cars were built by GM with 11" disc brakes and 14" wheels, and they had room to spare.

This is a tough one due to caliper placement and the way the wheel barrel tapers on some wheels. On those wheels you can see the barrel tapers down significantly by the spokes. You could get lucky and the pad height is tall enough to clear though. I would order one through Summit to verify fitment. If it does not work you just have to pay shipping back.

Just don't have a tire mounted, and you should be able to return it if you need to...

But I agree with derrik, recheck your caliper measurments. 13.5" sounds way to much for an 11" rotor... The factory used 11" rotors with 14" wheels...
What brand are the brakes?

I am using wheel vintiques series 64 14x5 wheels with stock '71 Chevelle calipers / 11" rotors on my Chevy II. SHould be no issues with a 15" wheel if you have stock Chevelle single piston (69-72) calipers and rotors.

I ordered the rear wheels first since I knew those would fit on the drums. I tested them on the disc brakes up front, and they DO FIT! I suppose it just works the say the inside of the wheel tapers wider and wider toward the outer edge. Shouldn't have stressed/listened to the guy on the phone from Wheel Vintique!

Thanks for everyones efforts!

Glad you found a setup that works. I went through this recently and wheel manufacturers are reluctant to confirm fitment in non stock applications. I totally understand it but they should be lucky they have a rep like Summit that makes it easy to try things out like wheels. Dont forget to post up pics when you get them mounted.
