65 Chevelle torque thrust wheel size help

Does anybody know if you can fit 15" torque thrust wheels on a 65 Chevelle f&r and if so what size tires would fit without rubbing. Also, the suspension is all stock. Thanks

Re: 65 Chevelle torque thrust wheel size help

Is the car Lowered ?

To only buy the Wheel/Tire Combo once that will fit within your Car's Wheel Wells you will need to do/take some Measurements

Every car is different from Driver side to Passsenger side and taking measurements of your car's Wheel Fender Wells etc
is the key to what Wheel / Tire Combo size will fit without rubbing or hitting anything ;

BACK SPACING & WHEEL WELL / Shock Mount Room https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

First with the Wheels/Tires removed from Both DR & Pass sides, one side at a time or all same time measure the following;
1. Rear End Width – Face of Brake Drum/Disc / Wheel Mount Pad Driverside to Face of Drum/Disc / Wheel Passengerside = ??“
2.OUT SPACE from inside Lip of outside Fender to Face of Rear Drum/Disc Brake Hub/Wheel Mounting Pad
.... DR Side = ??“ .... PASS Side = ??”
3.IN SPACE from Face of Rear Drum Brake Hub/Wheel Mounting Pad to Frame/Inner Fender
.... DR Side = ??“ .... PASS Side = ??”
4.Total Wheel Well Space = # 2 + # 3 measurements #s DR Side = ??“ ....PASS Side = ??”
if one side is less then use it as the applicable number or make sure the Rearend is centered properly

Important things to NOTE;
1. the Rear Lower Shock Mount Bolt may interfere with the Wheel’s Rim
2. and yes your car's exhaust may interfere with the Tire on a 10" Wide Wheel
3. Type of Brake system on rearend, Drum or Disc ! as the Disc setup is usually wider than a Drum setup
4. Is Rearend centred ?
5. Has the car been Lowered ?
6. Side Wall/Section Width of the Tire = ?
7. Diameter Height of Tire = ?
8. Size of Wheel you wish to run ?

Measure twice and you will only need to buy once the Wheels/Tires
you need to fit within your car’s Wheel Wells .

Supply the above info and then I can calculate for you !

Re: 65 Chevelle torque thrust wheel size help

Depends on what you want. I put Americans under my car a few years ago. 15x4.5 front, 15x6 rear. 165R15 tires front, 215/75R15 rear tires. Fits nice, no rubbing looks good to me.

Early cars are difficult to put a large tire under, I got tired of fighting it. Drives do wn the road just fine this way.

15x6 with 185/15 Front 15x8 With 275/60-15 rear on my 64. With 275’s you need perfectly centered rims.

Re: 65 Chevelle torque thrust wheel size help

The problem with torque thrusts is they are a cast wheel, not all of their offerings are optimal, especially for a car like the 65 Chevelle that has small rear wheel wells. You will most likely be limited to a 15 x 7 in the rear. If someone says a larger size torque thrust fits, look at the pictures they provide and pay attention to the ride height.

Good question. I'd have to pull them and measure. However, with wheels this skinny, unless the offset it crazy, it's not going to cause a problem.

My backspace wont help the thread starter since my rear is narrowed, I wanted to be able to run wheels with more backspace since I like the look better.

However I havnt change anything else so I know 275’s will fit on 8” wide rims in oem rear wheel houses if perfect centered.

But belive 5-5.25” backspace is what most run on 64-65 with oem widht rears and 8” rims of they want to fit the widest possible tires.

Re: 65 Chevelle torque thrust wheel size help

Marcus I forgot you have the Narrowed Rearend

if the 64 to 65s have a 60" Wide Rearend then a 8" Wide Wheel with a 4.5" BackSpace is about it for Drum Brakes
and if Disc Brakes then a 4.75" to 5.00" BackSpace for a 8" Wide Wheel is about it also

And they have to watch out for the Bottom of the Rear Shock Mount Bolt on a 14" or 15" Diameter Wheel
