17' AR TT 2's on a 1970, opinions please

Just picked up this set for a smoking deal. (I think)
American Racing Torque Thrust II's 17's 8in. (2 piece from 2006)
With 245/45/17's tires.
4in back space.
2 tires are good, 1 tire is OK and 1 is trash.

I've always liked the look.
I just put them on one side to check them out and i'm not sure if I'm feeling them.
The Rear doesn't look right to me.
I was already planning to replace the tires with a set of 255's, maybe in a 50?
Any idea how big i can go with a 4in backspace?
Ideas? Opinions? Thoughts?

The Car, the old Rallys and the new TT's are all very dirty.

They need taller tires to help fill up the wheel wells.

I have them in 17x8 up front with 245/40/17. But I lowered my front 1”. I think your car would look meaner lowered 1-2” in front. As for the rear I have 275/40. Fit perfect.

A 1-2in drop is on my list. But it'll be a while.
In the meantime I'm hoping a larger side wall (like Steve mentioned)
will do the trick.

Here's a chevelle I took pic's of at a car show with 255/50/17's.
but it does look lowered.

BigOiBoy I think they look great.

You could argue that they look a little bit small in the rear, but overall they're pretty bad ass!!

Got a set of 255/50/R17 Tires.
I think that fixed the problem. What do you think?

Thanks Rick, have you had any rubbing issues on the front?

Anyone that has 17's what do you use as a spare?
Any good donor candidates at the u-pull-it to pull a donut out of?

These cars , let me phrase, IN MY OPINION., looks so good when you drop em down an inch or so. I know the purists will flame but...LOL. The TT are heavily played but they do look good on these cars, just get the stance dialed in and your golden. I think the back is fine with the different tires, I would drop the front 1"

From what I'm reading, a 89-96 Corvette 17" compact spare should work. Guess I'll find out and report back.

Re: 17' AR TT 2's on a 1970, opinions please

I don't have any clearance problems in the front but mine have a 4.5" B.S. and I have tubular control arms, rears are a little close to the 3" exh. but rears are 5.5" B.S. and I'm going to do something to move the pipes inwards for wider drag radials, maybe muffler shop, my wheels came off Mikes (69Shevl) 57 Nomad, old version ?

I'm going to use a space saver from a 4th gen Camaro, it matches up with the 275/40-17s I'm running. You'll want to use something a little taller though. Maybe look at cadillacs at the junkyard to see what they have.
