2000 Chevy Astro Intermittent Wipers...

I was driving my mom's Astro van in the rain the other day. The intermittent wipers were not performing as they should. Sometimes they would work on delay, other times they would run constantly. Is this problem most likely going to be in the stalk switch or in the motor itself?? If anyone has any ideas, your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: 2000 Chevy Astro Intermittent Wipers...

If it's anything like the S10/blazer wipers, it's the wiper motor board. They sell replacement boards, but it's usually cold solder joints on the larger metal pieces of the board. There's 3 T10 or T15 holding the cover / board in the wiper motor housing, pull the screws, pull the board, resolder the bad joints, I usually push the wiper arms out a hair while I'm in there, and put it back together.

Hope this helps!

If it is the board you can try tapping on it to see if it affects the problem. The boards were the most likely problem with the wipers.

I can get a board from Autozone with a lifetime warranty on it for $35. I think I will go that route.

Good luck, just put something under the wiper motor when you start taking the screws out. They're deceivingly short and disappear in a hurry.

Just curious are you sure it doesn't have rain sense? I know 2002 Envoy could have it.

Not on an LS trim Astro van. The intermittent wipers have never worked like this prior to the other day - they always stayed where they were set. I am now seeing that GM did a poor job with electronic components on these vehicles - I had to replace the ABS module, due to poor soldering on the control board. These vans are just poorly built and have zero quality. Not worth owning. The problem is that she loved it when she bought it and does not have the means to get a different vehicle. I am stuck keeping this POS maintained and running until she can no longer drive.

My Ascender has that. Drove me nutz. Slight rain the wipers would come on. Real rain they wouldn't come on. I unplugged the damm thing, I can turn on stuff when needed, thank you.
