Replaced proportioning valve, how do I get the brake dash light out

Years ago I replaced the proportioning valve with an adjustable one and it doesn't have a connector for the dash brake light. I'm tired of looking at it and tried grounding it with a jumper wire but that didn't make it go out. Any idea how I can make it go out? Thanks!

Grounding that wire would complete the circuit to illuminate the light. That wire continues on to the bulkhead connector where it splits off into 2 other wires the same color under the dash. One side goes to the parking brake switch and when grounded also lights the brake light. The other wire continues to the dash connector. If you can't find a reason for that wire grounding out or an issue at the parking brake switch, disconnecting it at the connector
or before it should turn off the light.

Check your e brake switch along with the wire that originally went to the switch on the proportioning valve. Either the parking brake switch is tripped or the wire to the proportioning valve is grounded as both are grounding type switches. Power is supplied to the the warning light bulb with the key on. The bulb should not illuminate unless a ground is present from one or both wires on either the foot brake switch or the proportioning valve switch.

Al & Mark, thanks. I will check the parking brake switch, if it's okay (parking brake switch) the proportioning valve wire must be grounded somewhere, it's definitely not connected to the proportioning valve.

I had the same problem with my nova, replaced valve and light would not go out. everything checked out and worked as is should. replaced pressure switch and light went out. That fixed my problem.

That's not the same problem, the OP has no switch.

Thanks for the info but I don't think my new valve has a pressure switch. No where to hook up the wire.

Re: Replaced proportioning valve, how do I get the brake dash light ou

I removed my factory combination valve w/light provision for an adjustable prop valve and the light is not on. I just folded over the end of the wire and heat shrinked it so it would not ground.

I am a very low tech. guy. On both of my 70s to get the dash brake light to go out, I followed some instructions for a old G.M. wrench turner.
He said with your car running and in park, Take your right foot and hit the brake pedal like you are trying to bend the dang firewall.
I hit the pedal with a VERY HARD SMACK, ... Holy Poop, The light went out.
Thats my 2 cents.

Re: Replaced proportioning valve, how do I get the brake dash light ou

OP has no switch on adjustable valve, so either the original prop valve wire is grounded or the e brake switch is triggering the light.

UPDATE Replaced proportioning valve, how do I get the brake dash light

I found the problem (see pic). I might glue a piece of plastic onto the piece that is still there so the switch works properly and see how long it lasts. Thanks for all the help.

Mine was the exact same way as yours was.Tried a couple of ways but I finally hot glued a penny to that round plastic piece, they are almost the exact same size. It's been working for about 12 years or more maybe.Best penny I ever spent.

Now that's thinkin....if I can't find a piece of plastic the same size I will definitely go the penny route.
