69 Chevelle Steering Column Support

Frame off resto ragtop. The column brackets are bolted to the support brace below length of dash. That support brace the full length of dash moves slightly and thus so does steering column. Looks like there should be supports that attach that support brace to firewall. Non are present. What are they called? Where would I find them?

Buy an Assembly Instruction Manual for your car. It has all the information you need to show the parts you need, and where they are installed. Terry

A picture is worth a thousand words...

I believe the location you're referring to is marked in red on the below thumbnail. There should be a pair of bolts that are welded to the cowl and those bolts hold this section of metal dash with a couple of nuts.

You can buy a piece of round stock and make these if you can't find them. Get the shape and length with a piece of coat hanger for a template, and then make up a pair from the round stock. That size isn't too hard to hammer the ends flat after heating with a map torch.

Most people will not know what those parts are unless you post a picture of them. That is if you can come up with a picture. Someone here may have what you need, but will need a picture to know what it is you need.
