If the numbers on the engine match the VIN and the engine is a big block then yes, it is an SS. That is as long as the numbers haven't been stamped by someone else.

No, even though the numbers are very visible, they do not match the VIN as you can see here.

Re: 69 SS 396/325 Auto

Sooo...I have not picked up the car yet, daughter is in the hospital and hopefully I can get with him saturday.

I talked to the dealership that purchased the original dealership listed on the build sheet. I was hoping to find a dealers invoice or something that would tell me what exact options came on this car. They informed me that they don't keep any paper after ten years and they kept nothing from the old dealership [bust].

Hopefully when I get the car home maybe I can find another buildsheet somewhere.

What other places would a Framington Chevelle be hiding its sheet?

Re: 69 SS 396/325 Auto

Hey there, I have a 69 396/325hp 4spd #'s matching from the fremont plant in cali. It was a smog car that went to Portland, OR. Wentworth Chevrolet I believe. I found my build sheet just a few weeks ago underneath the driver's floor board(up under the pedals). It was between the metal floor pan and the sound deading mat under the carpet. trust me, I had all but given up hope until I found "The golden Ticket" in the last place I looked. Hope this helps. Sounds like yours is very similar to mine. The build sheet could be anywhere(behind the back seat cushion, above the gas tank, under the carpet, behind the door panels and where ever they felt like leaving it the day it left. I've heard all cars built at the lansing plant that it was mandatory that they pitched them? not sure if this is true, just what ive read inline before. sounds Like a nice car, good luck lemme know if I can help.

Thanks man, my carpet and pad are looong gone. I will definitely check the other places once I get the car home. It was a shock just to find what little we did of the seat build sheet.

Re: 69 SS 396/325 Auto

Great buy at $6500, I would have sold my left nut to buy that car. You rarely find them in that condition under $10K anymore. In my neck of the woods, people want close to $10K for a rusty 307 Malibu.

1972 SS 454 Chevelle - 468/M21/3.73
1969 Malibu L48/M20/3.31 -> L72 swap
1968 Malibu 307/PG -> LQ9/80E swap

Tomorrow is the day finally at 1, borrowing a car dolly from a buddy of mine. I never told my 18 yr old about the car, he is gonna freak when he sees it. lol

Now I have a decision to make, do I sell my 71 project or my 68 Catalina driver....hmmmm

Got the car home safe and sound , finally. Previous owner said they never put the car on the road after the engine rebuild and only made 4 passes at the track.

Looking at the build sheet from the machine shop:
Sealed power rings
Vandervell bearings
TRW Pistons
Cam Dynamics 294/304 Duration, 569/595 Lift
Sealed Power HI Vol. Oil Pump
Felpro Gaskets
Edelbrock true Roller timing chain

Block was bored, no clue how much
Crank was polished
Competition "Hyper FLow" valve job? (3 angle maybe)?
Hole saw heads for larger springs and machine valve guides for seals
Knurl Valve guides.

PO does not know the compression ratio but thought it was 10:1. They did run "race gas" in it at the track, 105 I assumed.

Engine work was completed by Jan-Cen racing, local here, at least they went to the right place, lol.
