Re: 69 SS 396/325 Auto

GM has a document that shows the VINs reported produced by each month, it gives and idea of how many a particular plant built a month. It is one of the few documents from GM that tells us anything official about how many they built. My lists show some chevelles with one month as the build month and week and they fall into the following month, doesn't happen all the time but there are a few months at some of the plants where this happened, example is say a 05D month and week build would be assumed to be built in the calendar month of May when the VIN was reported for April and in my list it would actually fall into early April. The rhyme or reason with the build months and weeks is still unknown since we can't nail them down and may never be able to. That is a bit much and I hope it makes sense...lol too early for me. take care, Andy

Andy has quite a database of 1969-related material. I have all those figures by month on my chevellestuff.net site, the 1969 model year info is on page 1969 Chevelle Production Numbers By Plant.

Must be early for Andy. A very late May car (05D) with an early April VIN sequence would definitely raise some eyebrows and toss up a few flags. Now, an early May car, say 05A and late April VIN sequence number I could see. I have a couple of examples of this for 1969. A KC 10E body tag with sequence 339517 when November was supposed to begin with 339097. That's 420 Chevelles into November but in production numbers that's only a half day's production for KC so it's reasonable.

Another example is a Framingham car with an 05A body date but sequence of 346029 when May was reportedly run from 348046-352264. That's closer to 2000 Chevelles. Considering Framingham built (on average) less than 300 Chevelles a day, that's about 7 days production.

Re: 69 SS 396/325 Auto

I decided to pass on the car, I have a 71 Malibu that is in about the same shape. I thought about putting some time into the 69, driving it for awhile and then tearing it apart. Seeing as I already have a 71 thats been torn down since 97 I don't think I would ever get to the 69 either, lol.

I will post a pic of the trim tag, the is going to send me a pic of it soon.

If the car would have had the original drive train then I probably would have purchased it.

Re: 69 SS 396/325 Auto

Dale you are right it was too early, my point that must have been bouncing around in my mind was that the fourth and fifth weeks can actually cross over into the next months reported VINs, if that makes any sense.....retired guys aren't supposed to get up that early right? take care, Andy

Ok, made the guy an offer, hopefully hear back tonight. I wonder if the car this engine was born in is still on the road?

Re: 69 SS 396/325 Auto

I understand having a project going and not wanting another one but $6500 seems like a great deal from what I can see in the pics.

If he accepts my offer then I will have more pictures up this weekend.
Did anyone have a chance to look at the trim tag, does it seem to match up with the partial build sheet?

I think $6500 is a good deal from what I can see in the pics...thought you might want another unbiased opinion.

So even without the vin on the paperwork, there's no doubt this is a true SS?
