What does BK053893 on the BS mean?

I was just looking over the build sheet my son found under the back seat of his 70 several years ago and wondering what BK053893 at the top of the sheet means.

Re: What does BK053893 on the BS mean?

It looks like the body number to me and is the same as the body number in block 9 with the addition of BK in the front. The body number is on the trim tag but starts with KAN for the kansas cars. The K in BK probably stands for Kansas, and I have noticed other plants actually use a Bsomething in front of the body number, on the trim tag. For instance, Arlington uses BT and Van Nuys uses BL.

On the trim tag, yes. The B does not stand for Body though.

Plants sometimes differ in their codes between trim tag and buildsheet.

Atlanta - A on trim tag but AT on buildsheet
Arlington - BT on both
Baltimore - B on trim tag and BB on the buildsheet
Flint - FL2 on trim tag and BF (I think) on buildsheet
Kansas City - KAN on trim tag and BK on buildsheet
Van Nuys - BL on both

Other oddities for 1970:
* Kansas City is the only plant to have the body number on the buildsheet the same as the 6-digit number in block #24 (053893 in Dean's case)
* The number on a Baltimore trim tag after the B is NOT the body number from the buildsheet but rather the 6-digit number in block #24.

Re: What does BK053893 on the BS mean?

Yes. The 71 model year had some different plants - Atlanta and Flint were gone.
Arlington - R on both
Baltimore - B on trim tag and BB on buildsheet
Kansas City - K on trim tag and BK on buildsheet - body number is same as 6-digit number in block 24
Van Nuys - L on both
