Engine block code help

Looking at a 1967 Malibu with a 327 and owner states it is original to the car. He tells me the engine block code is HC. Can this be correct? Thanks.

No. 1967 Chevelle 327 has suffix codes of EA, EB, EC, EE, EQ, ER, and ES. http://chevellestuff.net/1967/engine_id_codes.htm

An HC coded 327 is a 65, 67 or 68 passenger car; essentially the same 327/275 w/Powerglide but not original to the Chevelle. You'd need to get the casting number off the block and maybe the date as well to determine the year. Several 327 blocks used from 65 through 68.

As a side note, the 66 model year passenger car had the same engine but was coded HCH if it had a Holley or HCR if it had a Rochester.
