Re: help with decode numbers

Your VIN doesn't match the rest of your 'stuff'.
1 =Chevrolet
1 = 1971
C = Southgate,Ca
4542 = part of an assembly sequence with 2 numbers missing

3916323 = 1968 ,396 , 2 or 4 bolt mains
ET = 67 -68 Chevelle 396/325hp
3931063 = 68-69 ,396 ,Closed chamber ,100.9 cc

The 68 here(68-13837) indicates it's a 68 ,not a 69.
The engine codes you gave are for a 68 396/325hp engine from a Chevelle.
I may be misunderstanding what the 11C4542 indicates but it's likely the trim info located below the 68-13837 on the trim tag and the spaces aren't shown.
You might get a moderator to move this to the 'Tag Team' Forum.

Mike,
Weren't Buick, Olds and Pontiacs only built at that plant? You may need to find out what the exact VIN is, Joe. I may be wrong.

Oh. Dumb me. The 11C is probably the build date. November, 3rd Week and the 4542 is probably a data processing number.
