1967 Chevelle VIN tag for sale

The funny thing about this one is it's for a Malibu. Regardless, still illegal.

Besides from being illegal, why in the world would someone want to buy a 136 VIN tag? Unless they are cloning their Super Sport into a Malibu?

To replace a VIN tag on a stolen car.
There are ways of getting a title as long as the VIN isn't on the hot sheet.

Re: 1967 Chevelle VIN tag for sale

Saw a folder full of these at a swap meet over the weekend. Also looked a a 67 SS with the original rivets in the vin tag, but it was super easy to tell that the metal around the tag was cut out and welded into the car. Always a good idea to use a magnet and check for filler in the area around the vin tag. I wonder how many people have retagged SS cars out there?

I'm about 99.9% sure this is what happened to mine. Or it turned into a drag car with a homemade cowl and firewall.

Re: 1967 Chevelle VIN tag for sale

Flagged now and it's not viewable. Lots of reasons to want a Malibu VIN plate. Not everybody is cloning SS396 cars, at least not with anywhere near correct VINs. People now just put a badge on a car and call it an SS clone, small block and all.

Malibus still bring good money and if the one you have doesn't have a VIN plate, there's your market.

Re: 1967 Chevelle VIN tag for sale

FYI: I was at a salvage yard auction over the weekend in Eden, SD. They sold 600+ 1920's - 60's cars on Saturday, about half to the crusher. There was some jerk from North of the border, no offense to our Canadian friends, that was drilling out and stealing VIN tags from some of the most collectible cars while the crowd was on the other side of the yard. These cars had matching titles and VIN's. Someone saw him, approached him, and he took off in his bright yellow PU with Canadian license plates. The Sheriff's Dept caught him about 40 miles away heading north. He had many VIN's in his pocket and the cordless drill in the truck. He is now in jail facing Federal charges. Apparently he thought he was going to sell the tags. The Sheriff contacted the auctioneers that they had him in custody and they made the announcement to the crowd. The crowd wanted the cops to bring the guy back out to the yard so they could "talk to him". The owner of the yard also informed the crowd that he had a big tree and a new rope! If you go to vanderbrinkauctions.com, I'm sure you can read more of the story there. Or should be able to as soon as Yvette updates her website.
