64 El Camino trim tag decode help

Hello again. Doing some work on a building today that happens to be a bodyshop. While on the roof I noticed cars rusting away in his yard. I saw an El Camino. Couldnt tell if it was 64 65 from the roof. After I was done I asked the property owner what the deal was with the El Co? He said it runs and he wants $1000 for it. Its rusty I may pass but if the trim tag says something good i may reconsider. Aaand here it is;

LB
64-5680 VN4535
918

750

E 2M 3C 5V

Thanks guys and a girl or two.

LB- Sure it's not 1B? Which would be January, 2nd Week
64- 1964
5680- Deluxe El Camino 8-Cylinder
VN- Van Nuys, California (Assembly Plant)
4535- Fisher Body Unit Number
918- Azure Aqua (Pretty cool)
750- Medium Metallic Aqua Imitation Leather (Bench Seat)
E- Tinted Windows
2- Group 2
M- Powerglide Transmission
3- Group 3
C- Padded Dash
5- Group 5
V- Seat Belts

IMO, $1000 for any Chevelle/El Camino is a good buy.

Re: 64 El Camino trim tag decode help

Just cause the trim tag might denote a V8, doesn't mean it is one, only the VIN tag is to be believed. Just an FYI on these early cars/elkys.

Huh? On RICH-L79 's sticky in this forum, the 5680 stands for 6 cylinder?

Thanks for correcting me, Leo. I'm not very familiar with the early Chevelle's/El Camino's.

Re: 64 El Camino trim tag decode help

The Fisher Body style number on the Fisher Body Number Plate (aka, trim tag) DOES NOT mean L6 or V8 engine like the GM VIN plate - on any 1964 through 1972 Chevelle - and never did. The only way to tell if a Chevelle was born with an L6 or V8 is by the VIN plate. If the 3rd digit of the VIN is an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7, or the letter D in 1972) then the Chevelle was born with an L6 engine. If the 3rd digit of the VIN is an even number (2, 4, 6, 8, or any letter EXCEPT "D" in 1972) then the Chevelle was born with a V8 engine.
