Not having any luck on what this should fit? Date code is 73.

Specifically trying to figure out if it'll fit 396 internal balance with 11" clutch.

Thanks,

I believe that a 396 is INTERNAL balanced. Some info I found on the net was that this crosses to GM p/n 3991469 and is for 67-85 all internal balanced engines with 11" clutch, 168 tooth ring gear with 2 pc rear seal. Should be obvious if its for 'external' balanced engine.

yes, 396 is internal. And that is what I was looking for, a flywheel that would fit the BBC, internal balance. Based on the above, it sounds like it would fit.

Now all I have to do is get that groove machined out of the face.....

Thanks.

Re: Decode of 3973456n Flywheel

Hello, I obtained a Flywheel 3973456 with a borg beck clutch. I have a 396 that I am converting back to a M21. In readinug your posts, you mentioned machining the grove out of the face? Can you let me know what has to be ground out, will it not fit the 396 as it is? Thanks

Bob,
This post is 6 years old. I don't know if they are still on here. Might send them an e-mail. Or somebody else should know.
