I think I posted this sometime back but I can't find it. I'm looking for help on the 7D in the stamp

The Vin on the block is; T0909IV7D105695

I think

T = Tonawanda plant
0909 = September 9th
IV = 65-68 396/325 Chevrolet
7 = ??? does this equal 67
D = ???
105695 = VIN

any help on if I'm right and what the 7D is would help

Thanks,

Mike

Thank you for the reply. So the 7 is for the model year -- meaning the engine originally came in a 1967 Impala or Biscayne? Can I even be sure if the “Chevrolet” model included any other cars that could have gotten a 396/325? The 7 is NOT the engine build data which would be for a 1968 model.

Just to clarify things;

Quote:

This is not really the VIN...................

T0909IV is the engine application suffix code and production date code and engine plant.

7D105695 is the VIN derivative. In 1967 and prior they used the last 8 digits of the VIN. Beginning around 1968 models the added one more digit to the VIN derivative, that being the GM division. (Example 17D105695, the 1=Chevy, 2=Pontiac, 3=Olds, etc)

The engine came from a 1967 Impala, no other models got the code IV (RPO L35) but 1965 thru 1968 models Impala's. Other Chevy models used a different suffix code.
