Paint Code GT 2 tone on 68 SS396

OK, I am a little confused, in my latest reseach I found that 2 tone paint was not an option available for the SS396. My car is a numbers matching SS396 and has GT on the cowl tag and POP, which indicates a 2 tone car: Ash Gold / Palomino Ivory. Painted correct ash gold when I purchased. Thanks, Ken

What sources did you research? We need to know, because you've been given false information.
The 1968 Chevrolet Car Selector (dealer album), Features and Specifications Manual, and the Exterior-Interior Colors pages of the parts manuals all list the Ash Gold/Palomino Ivory (code GT) two tone available on SS 396 models. Also available were Grotto Blue/Ermine White (code DC), Grotto Blue/Fathom Blue (code DE), Fathom Blue/Grotto Blue (code ED), and Teal Blue/Island Teal (code LF) as standard two tone colors available on all SS 396, Malibu, and Concours Sport Sedan models. Two tones weren't available on station wagons or convertibles.

Agree with Bill. Two-tone paint (under RPO 950) was available on all models except wagon (35), convertible (67) and pickup (80). No specific model break downs available but 16,601 68 Chevelles were ordered in one of the several two-tone combinations.

Good looking SS by the way! To get it back to 'correct' GT paint status you'd also need the trim for the paint separation at the top/quarter junction and quarter glass molding used on two-tone & vinyl top cars. The same trim is used for two-tone paint as well as a vinyl top.
