Big Block Head Date Code

I was checking the casting numbers and date codes on the heads of my big block 70 Chevelle.

The one head had a casting number of 3964291 with a 1-10-78 date code.

Would it be correct to assume this is a replacement head?

I did not think any vehicles came with the rectangular intake ports in 1978.

The spark plugs are the larger 13/16" type.

Thanks!

Re: Big Block Head Date Code

Looks like a replacement or over the counter head.
