Was really lucky and bought a 138375B 65 Chevelle SS 4spd car.Paint code is AA Tuxcedo Black and 799 TR ,Slate.Cars build date is O5B.Motor long gone. Was wondering if theres any way to tell if its a L79 car.Heard the L79 cars were mid production cars.Car is No power steering and no power brakes. How many L79 cars were built in 65 ? Did they have to be a SS to get the L79? Any help would really be appreciated! Dan

6,021 L79 options in 1965, includes Chevelle and El Camino. Thats the only way the records were kept, not broke down by models with the series.

You could order it in any body style from what I can tell, not SS exclusive. Probably more sleepers were ordered than SS. SS was the luxury model and most hot rodder's likely could not afford those.

I think there is something about the fuel line size, if it is 3/8 it is a 350hp. Anybody know if this is fact? The frame stiffeners that mount at the rear suspension points were added for the L79? What else? I know you guys have posted some of this in the past.

The 81k figure is how many SS cars were built in '65.

Starting shortly after the start of the model year, all 327 and all 4-speed cars should have gotten the rear frame supports, those do NOT indicate an L79 by themselves.
