Question #"s location

I have a 72 chevelle with a BB,the block was decked so the numbers are gone so i dont know what the year it is ect.I was told it is a 402 but i would like to know more about this motor.Where else can I look for info?Thanks for any info.oh,not orig mo-mo.

Look behind, the "heads", on the 'back, top side', of the engine block......
One side will have the engine casting number, the other side will have the engine casting date.......Don.
