68 Malibu

Trying to figure out what original motor was in 1968 Malibu.

From Cowl Tag:

05E 0842
68-13667 KAN 1518
795-A R-2

Has a 350 motor which is 1969-80 range according to block stamp.

I don't believe '68 Malibu's came with a 350 as option.

So the quandry, without a build sheet, how can I find out what it came with? Second, what were the engine options for that year (think 307, 327 and 396 in various HPs).

Any references/info a big help.

Thanks,

13667=2 door Malibu
KAN=Kansas City assy plant
795=Medium red vinyl bench seat
R-2=Matador Red with a black vinyl top

You're correct.

You can't

Second, what were the engine options for that year (think 307, 327 and 396 in various HPs).

For Malibu's, the 230 & 250 CI 6-cyls, 307 and 327 CI V-8's, no 396's in Malibus in 68, only SS cars.

Any references/info a big help.

Re: 68 Malibu

Thanks for info... right up what I thought.

So after looking up with VIN and Cowl tag, I least know it was a v8... so 307 or 327 since you're saying no 396's unless in SS which this does not appear to be (but don't know how I would confim).

Thx.

It's not as SS unless the vin starts with 138 ...

The VIN confirms that you do not have an SS. All SS models for 1968 had 138 as the first three digits of their VIN.
